About Me
Jodie Martin, LPC
Hi, my name is Jodie Martin, LPC. I am a skilled clinician and licensed by the state of Texas as a Professional Counselor. I attended Texas Tech University and received a BA in Psychology, with a Minor in Substance Abuse Studies in 1991. In 1998, I graduated from West Texas A & M with an M.Ed. in Professional Counseling. My practicum requirements were met through Crown of Texas Hospice and my internship was fulfilled through Canyon Lakes Residential Treatment Center and SafePlace of the Permian Basin.
“Jodie helped me so much in my time of need.”
Experienced Counselor
My diverse experience allows me to be empathetic and knowledgable in a variety of therapeutic settings. I counseled patients under the care of hospice services, as well as the family and friends who grieved the loss of their loved ones. I also founded and led a support group while living in Kentucky called “H.O.P.E.”-Healing Our Parental Emptiness. It was held for families who had lost a child through miscarriage, still-birth, or early childhood death. Also while living in Kentucky, I worked with people dealing with various types of addictions through support groups.
Domestic Violence Counseling
I have helped abused women face the daily struggles of living with an abuser, as well as those who were able to leave a home filled with domestic violence. Unfortunately, domestic violence does not only impact the identified victim. The children in the home are victims as well, and I have worked with them to manage their own fears, anger, and sadness from living in an abusive environment.
Child Counseling
Through my work at Canyon Lakes Residential Treatment Center, I have worked with children and adolescents ages 7-18, as well as their families. Many of these children struggle to follow directions, do not perform to their capabilities in school due to behavioral problems, and have difficulties making positive choices. When a child struggles, usually the entire family struggles as well, so I have worked extensively with the families of these children to help them develop more appropriate parenting skills and be able to manage their child better.
Family Practice
While continuing my work at CLRTC, I have also embarked on establishing a private practice, through which I have worked with men and women of all ages, as well as children and adolescents, and their families. I also works closely with Family Court to help mediate in cases of child custody through counseling each party involved in the situation.
Christian Counselor
Through all of these topics and experiences, I choose to put God first, family second, and profession third. I strongly believe that although you can “make things better”, there is not total healing without a relationship with Jesus, the ultimate Healer.
